My Background
By day, I am a computer programmer, but by night... well I like computers at night too. My other hobbies include role playing and more recently homebrewing. When I first went to college I was a teetotaler. That lasted for at least 3 months. When I was introduced to beer it was a necessary evil in order to get at the alcohol inside (even then, I was a big fan of inebriation). I quickly warmed to imported beer as it was slightly less bad than the American macrobrews. Guinness is about the only beer I drank then and am still drinking now. In the last few years have I been pleasantly surprised with the quality and selection of the craft beers that are available. I still love the dark beers the best though.
Since about 2002 I have been enjoying home roasted coffee. The difference in taste between fresh roasted coffee compared to the normal store bought variety is enormous. You can also get single-origin coffee much more easily and cheaply if you roast it yourself.
In 2008, after hanging out with The Inebriati gang on brew days, Patty and I brewed our first homebrew. The home roasted coffee dovetailed nicely with the homebrew, and I produced a delicious Coffee Stout (espresso added in the primary). While it was good it didn't have quite the kick that I was looking for, so my second batch was an Imperial Stout, this one brewed with espresso in the primary and vodka cold extracted coffee in the secondary.
Favorite Brews
Three Floyd's Dark Lord Imperial Stout. Or anything else dark, including ports!
